Job Description

Our Automation Solutions division is currently seeking an experienced Electrical Power Systems Engineer for our Richmond, BC office. In this position, you will be responsible for the development, design, and delivery of electrical power systems projects for our customers including generator interconnections, protection systems upgrade, harmonics mitigation, and designs of substation and power distribution systems. With each project, you will be responsible for solving problems throughout the design process from the conception of the design through to commissioning, while establishing effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Estimate, plan, manage and coordinate small to mid-sized electrical power system projects
  • Perform engineering studies and provide solutions to problems of varying complexities using simulation software such as SKM Power*Tools, ETAP or EasyPower
  • Design and commission medium voltage and high voltage electrical power systems
  • Perform protection and control systems design and settings
  • Articulate design concepts to internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and evaluate tender and construction packages, including drawings, equipment and construction/installation specifications, and other supporting documentation
  • Mentor junior engineers

Job Requirements

When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following essential skills, abilities, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 6-8 years’ experience in industrial electrical power design
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, with EGBC
  • Brownfield industrial electrical systems design and analysis (up to 69 kV) with minimal supervision
  • Power system studies (short circuit and arc flash studies for industrial plants)
  • Designing industrial plant/equipment protection and controls schemes, schematics and wiring design, settings and programming of digital relays (SEL, GE, Areva)
  • Leading small and medium sized projects as a technical lead, delivering tender and construction packages
  • Mentoring junior engineers
  • Site audit, commissioning, construction, and start-up experience
  • Resourceful, self-managed, and goal driven with a can-do attitude
  • Foster relationships with internal team members and external customers
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills (English)
  • Practical knowledge of CEC, NEC and IEEE standards
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international sites

  • Consulting engineering experience
  • Experience in pulp and paper and mining industries
