Requests for technical quotations and problem solving can originate from Sales Associates, Paper Mills, Engineering Firms, or Paper Machinery Builders.  A Global Applications Engineer will review the request, verify the correct information is present within the request, and determine what equipment may be required in order to satisfy the objectives outlined within the request.  An outline is generated and forwarded to Inside Sales for pricing.

As part of a proposal, generation of the following material may be required for the primary product line: Vacuum requirements, Drainage projections, Layout drawings, Horsepower consumption projections, Descriptive cover letter. Support presentation material.

Field Applications and Engineering Service (30%)

Global applications field personnel are often required to audit the wet end of a customer papermachine. Documenting and evaluating existing equipment as well as end product paper properties are routinely performed.  Additionally, gathering of engineering information such as installed vacuums, drive motors or gathering of equipment prints or generating sketches is often required.

Field applications personnel may be required to start-up APC equipment.  Start-up supervision, customer training, formulating and executing trial plans and reports are commonly required.  Generation of short technical marketing case study material is required at every start-up.  Writing and presenting technical papers highlighting non proprietary theory of design and start-up of APC equipment is encouraged.

Engineering service is also performed for all assigned product lines.  This service will vary widely based upon customer needs and product lines but will involve a mix of engineering, papermaking and mechanical service as well as audit support.

Field Based Technical Marketing (20%)

Field based technical marketing will be required to for the presentation of APC equipment for larger jobs, key customer or strategic accounts or low market share product lines or regions.  The goal of the technical marketing is to provide a clear perception of APC knowledge base to ensure they view the APC products as value added and differentiated, and to ensure the customer views APC products and people as technically superior.

Some laboratory or literature research may be necessary to further the technical marketing approach or justify the concepts and may even require short duration laboratory or in-mill trials to generate necessary data to formulate and convey a consistent rationale and differentiating criteria for APC, applications and support.  More extensive development work to support APC approaches can be referred to the engineering development group or performed by the global applications specialist as interested.  Generating value based technical marketing strategies is essential.  Writing and presenting technical papers supporting the APC strategic approach at technical conferences is encouraged.
