Job Description

The field instrumentation technician is responsible for technical documentation and verification of the instruments / auxiliaries system. Working with the Commissioning manager, the Field instrumentation technician will be reviewing designs, preparing installation manuals, plan tooling requirements, perform verification of instruments and commissioning the auxiliaries system for a hydro turbine / generator. The incumbent will be based at one of our work sites in Canada.

During the preparation and planning phase:

  • Supporting the projects execution on installation and commissioning matters;
  • Technical governance and customer relations on technical matters;
  • Enhancing Field Service team technical excellence through technical support, training and mentoring on best practices, calculations, etc.;
  • Ensuring on-time delivery of Field Service documentation;
  • Review the design and propose changes to reduce installation challenges, improve safety and quality as well as reduce time and cost of installation;
  • Participate to technical training of site teams;
  • Document the technical expertise and best practices;
  • Contribute to overall quality and excellence in execution of installation & commissioning.

During the execution phase:

  • Ensure work is performed safely for the personnel and equipment;
  • Perform the verification of the functionality of the instruments at site;
  • Start-up the different auxiliaries system;
  • Filled the quality record has work progress;
  • Work with the commissioning engineer to plan and support the commissioning effort;
  • Provide support the site teams regarding the technical issues or challenges;
  • Collaborate in resolving complex problems.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma (DEC) in Electrical Engineering;
  • Be available for work on project sites in Canada and overseas;
  • Must be fluent in French and English for site work across Canada;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team work skills and autonomy;
  • Ability to multitask and shift between many different projects and initiatives with tight deadlines;
  • Strong customer service orientation;
  • Knowledge of mechanical system considered an asset;
  • Proficiency in DasyLab or any data acquisition program considered an asset;
  • Commissioning experience considered an asset.
