Job Description

The field engineering technician is responsible for technical documentation and preparation of the installation and commissioning works. Working with the Senior Field Engineer, the Field Engineering Technician will be reviewing designs, preparing installation manuals, plan special tooling requirements.

During the preparation and planning phase:

  • Support the project execution team on installation and commissioning matters;
  • Technical governance and customer relations on technical matters;
  • Enhance Field Service team technical excellence through technical support, training and mentoring on best practices, calculations, etc.;
  • Ensure on-time delivery of Field Service documentation;
  • Review and/or execute analysis and installation calculations;
  • Review the design and propose changes to reduce installation challenges, improve safety and quality as well as reduce time and cost of installation;
  • Participate in technical training of site teams;
  • Document technical expertise and best practices;
  • Contribute to overall quality and excellence in execution of installation & commissioning.

During the execution phase:

  • Provide support the site teams regarding the technical issues or challenges;
  • Collaborate in resolving complex problems;
  • Participate in the lessons learned process;
  • Contribute to the implementation of improvements coming from engineering and the field service teams.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma (DEC) in Mechanical Engineering;
  • 3 years of experience in hydroelectric turbine-generator installation or design in the case of college diploma;
  • Be available for short visits on project sites in Canada and overseas;
  • Must be fluent in French and English for site work across Canada;
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access);
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team work skills and autonomy;
  • Ability to multitask and shift between many different projects and initiatives with tight deadlines;
  • Strong customer service orientation;
  • Knowledge of electrical and controls considered an asset;
  • Commissioning experience is an asset.
