Job Description

As a member of the Andritz Hydro Mechanical Design Team, Turbine, located in Pointe-Claire, the selected candidate will be responsible for a team performing mechanical design for rehabilitation of Francis, Kaplan and propeller turbine groups. The team size is 4 to 8 engineers and designers colleagues.

  • Team leader (25 to 50%)
    • Responsible for workload assessment, planning and monitoring;
    • Assigns tasks and priorities to team members;
    • Acts as a mentor and provides technical support to members of his team;
    • Participates in the annual employee evaluation process and in defining training needs;
    • Participates in business process update, implementation and enforcement;
    • Participates in defining, monitoring and assessing annual goals and objectives.
  • Turbine engineer (50 to 75%):
    • Collaborate with hydraulic design engineers, drafters and project teams in the development of turbine designs within technical specifications and cost optimization requirements over project cycles;
    • Perform design computations (stress and strains) in addition to technical specifications, in conformity with internal design practice and industry requirements;
    • Budget and timeline follow up and update with project teams;
    • Organize and participate in design reviews;
    • Review and seal off technical documentation developed under his/her supervision;
    • Provide technical support for the manufacturing and installation of hydraulic turbines;
    • Participate in the development and maintenance of tools and design practices;
    • Participate in problem solving and identification of root causes;
    • Prepare, as required, technical documentation for bids.

Job Requirements

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering and ten (10) years of relevant experience in mechanical design and project engineering more specifically in hydro turbine refurbishment;
  • Profile: Leadership, autonomous, multiples priorities management abilities, teamwork, interpersonal skills (listening and speaking), solution-oriented, driven by continuous improvement and goal attainment ;
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities;
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec or other Canadian professional engineering organisation ;
  • Available for occasional trips of over a week in Canada and abroad;
  • Fluently bilingual – English and French, written and oral (desirable).
  • Team management experience, an asset.
