Andritz Hydro, an OEM and world leader in the design, manufacturing, and installation of hydropower equipment is looking for an experienced Project Controls & Scheduling Specialist to help set up and execute appropriate project controls methodologies for its Hydro projects in the Canadian market. 

Project Controls & Scheduling Specialist is a new role at Andritz, which will be part of the Project Controls function. 

The ideal candidate should have industrial construction experience and strong scheduling experience with an enterprise application (Primavera P6). The main responsibility of this role is to assist with the implementation of Earned Value Management (EVA) across all facets of our Hydro project (engineering, supply, manufacturing and construction). 

The incumbent will have the opportunity to leverage his expertise in project controls and scheduling and work with our team in developing policies, procedures and standards in project controls. Responsibilities will eventually include project controls and scheduling execution in active projects. 

The candidate will be responsible to develop, update and manage schedules for multiple multi-million dollar projects, as well as guide and train other employees in project scheduling techniques. Possessing experience in large hydro, industrial or construction projects is an essential requirement. The candidate must be articulate and able to work with the different groups and levels within the business.



  • Develop procedures, standards and tools for the EVA management;
  • Train existing employees on various aspects of EVA and Project Controls;
  • Ensure functionality, timeliness and data quality of all the sub-segments required for EVA, namely:
    • Earned values / Progress measurement based on physical % complete;
    • Planned Values, based on the original budgets, baseline schedules;
    • Actuals, based on project cost accounting;
  • Collaborate with other members of project teams to identify issues, draft recommendations and implement those recommendations as required;
  • Produce EVA reports & metrics, S-curves etc. for project managers/management and assist with interpretation of results to adjust project execution and make decisions;
  • Develop and maintaining Project schedules for the Project Team;
  • Ensure proper integration of all Project schedules (L1 to L4);
  • Perform impact analysis of delays and accelerations and as well as impact of critical third party interfaces;
  • Define the critical and sub-critical path activities, communicating them to the Project Team;
  • Develop and maintaining other schedules as deemed necessary by the Project Team, milestone schedules, manpower curve, mobilization plan/schedules;
  • Collect progress updates, applying progress to schedules, re-forecasting resource requirements and achievement of milestones;
  • Review manpower planning;
  • Ensure that all Schedules and Planning databases are aligned;
  • Assist in the development of option analysis for project scope and execution plans;
  • Provide scheduling expertise for development of the Project schedules, including support for schedule risk analysis;
  • Implement best practices and standards to ensure integrity of data and quality of output
  • Interface with other groups and functions (finance, risk, projects, commercial, etc.) for multi-disciplinary deliverables;
  • Occasionally visit construction locations for reviews, training, or customer meetings.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in project controls roles, with emphasis on planning, cost control and EVM;
  • Minimum of five (5)+ years of scheduling experience in an enterprise application (Primavera P6) for large industrial or EPC-type projects;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering or Finance/Accounting;
  • Experience in large infrastructure construction (EPC) projects, an asset;
  • Leadership and coordination skills; ability to organize teams, follow up on deliverables, train employees;
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex data sets and resolve issues;
  • Strong experience working in Excel;
  • Short assignments, requires traveling (10%-20%);
  • Proficiency in English and French;
  • Ability to communicate clearly, deliver presentations, simplify and explain variances / trends etc.
