Job Description

General Scope of Responsibilities:

Learn and manage up to three product lines.  Take overall responsibility for projects related to customer orders, engineering research and/or development of designs of Andritz Paperchine (APC) products and related components.  Create and maintain design standards.  Liaise with customers, external contractors and/or internal APC departments to ensure accurate, on-time and in budget completion of project (s).

 

Specific Responsibilities:

 

10%     Main customer liaison / project documentation for specific product lines

30%     Machine design and layout including taking field measurements

20%     Generates detailed production drawings, maintains design standards

20%     Mechanical service and assembly in shop

20%     Special projects, development, value engineering, analysis etc.

 

Machinery design functions including the production of AutoCAD Mechanical or Inventor drawings as appropriate for the development of unique designs and application of APC products and product configurations. Products will incorporate heavy steel fabricated components as well as pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical technologies.  Based on product / customer requirements, and as directed by the Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer conducts design investigations and engineering calculations related to alternate design approaches, alternative technologies, component redesigns, alternate suppliers, etc. on assigned projects.  Works independently to select and evaluate components, hardware and materials necessary to meet project design requirements.  Designs any required tools, fixtures, gages and R&D prototype parts and components necessary to execute design projects. 

 

Works independently with sales representatives and customers by phone and at customer site to measure, install, troubleshoot and evaluate APC products and R&D initiatives. Global travel expectation is 25%.

 

Coordinates resources with other APC personnel (Inside Sales, Purchasing and Manufacturing) to insure timely construction of design projects and customer orders.  Verifies that the product meets all design requirements.  Troubleshoots deviations from design requirements / specifications and initiates any required corrections.  Provides assistance and guidance to others, as required, in support of company goals and department objectives.

 

Prepares accurate and timely computer based engineering drawings, layouts, graphic representations and FEA analysis reports of structures as required.  Modifies engineering drawings and updates drawings as required.  When the schedule requires will produce production drawings.  Investigates and executes Engineering Change Requests / Orders.  Prepares machinery spare parts lists, bills-of-material and operations manuals as required.

 Within skill capabilities and availability, performs other duties as assigned to assure the efficient operation of the department and company.

 Complies with all company guidelines, safety program, quality program, rules and regulations.

 Secondary Functions:

 Maintains an accurate record and database of all relevant activities.

Performs all work in a safe manner and follows company safety guidelines.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering (ME or MET) or 3-5 years equivalent experience
  • Competent in AutoCAD Mechanical, Inventor and Autodesk simulation tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as engineering drawings, safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical reference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratio and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
