Job Description


Responsible for meeting purchasing needs in all assigned areas of commodities, fabrications, castings, forgings, machining, coating services, including planning, requisition review, supplier selection, order placement, and follow up.



  1. Negotiates, places orders, and enters into contracts for procurement as necessary for required materials and services to ensure timely delivery with maximum company benefit.
  2. Analyzes quotations, negotiates purchasing agreements, and follows up to ensure delivery schedules are met and communicated. Works to achieve improved lead times.
  3. Reviews all received requirements of required material and services for completeness, description, appropriate approval, delivery date and designated receipt point.
  4. Establishes rapport and maintains business association with suppliers, and directsprocures vendor technical and operating expertise as required to appropriate internal personnel.
  5. Develops and recommends new sources of supply for assigned items.
  6. Maintains effective communications with supervisor, requisitioner, suppliers, project managers, staff members and other Andritz departments.
  7. Under general supervision, monitors, reports and takes authorized corrective action to coordinate the timely delivery of purchased parts and materials.
  8. Rectify supplier non-conformances in a timely manner to ensure minimal disruption to production and sales orders.
  9. Adhere to local and global Andritz procedures and policies, and annual purchasing targets.
  10. Utilize SAP to improve purchasing efficiencies.



  1. Performs various projects as assigned.
  2. Prepares spreadsheets and reports as needed.
  3. Provides general administration support for the purchasing department as required.
  4. Establishes and maintains purchasing records.



Most duties are performed in a sitting position in a climate controlled office environment.

Moderate to high levels of stress due to changing priorities and multiple deadlines, and constant interaction with internal associates, customers and vendors.

Duties require constant use of telephone, PC and appropriate business software (SAP, MS Office)

No travel restrictions preventing entry into the United States or Europe for training and meetings. 

Job Requirements


Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing and possess strong analytical skills normally associated with post-secondary education.

3+ years' experience in a purchasing role.

Must be well organized, capable of exercising initiative, and have sound decision-making capabilities, ability to interpret engineered drawings.

Maintain effective internal and external working relationships.

Be able to recognize and identify errors or inconsistencies.

Must have good understanding of purchasing function/system, basic PC skills and basic understanding of MRP

Must have above average human relations skills, including motivation and negotiation

SAP experience an asset.
