Job Description

As a member of the Andritz Hydro Mechanical Design Team, Turbine, located in Pointe-Claire, the selected candidate will be responsible for the mechanical design of the rehabilitation of the Francis, Kaplan and propellor turbine groups.

  • Collaborate with hydraulic design engineers, drafters and project teams in the development of turbine designs within technical specifications and cost optimization requirements over project cycles;
  • Perform design computations (stress and strains) in addition to technical specifications, in conformity with internal design practice and industry requirements;
  • Budget and timeline follow up and update with project teams;
  • Organize and participate in design reviews;
  • Review and seal off technical documentation developed under his/her supervision;
  • Provide technical support for the manufacturing and installation of hydraulic turbines;
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of tools and design practices;
  • Participate in problem solving and identification of base causes;
  • Prepare, as required, technical documentation for bids.

Job Requirements

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering;
  • Professional Engineer registered with the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or from another Canadian province;
  • Experience with hydro turbine rehabilitation;
  • Profile: client approach, teamwork, interpersonal skills, technical leadership, solution-oriented and continuous development;
  • Programming knowledge in productivity tools (VBA, C++,..), an asset;
  • Knowledge of hydraulic turbines (Francis, propellor and Kaplan) and their components, an asset;
  • Excellent written and oral communication abilities;
  • Available for occasional trips of over a week in Canada and abroad;
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite, CAD system and relevant computer tools;
  • Fluently bilingual – English and French, written and oral (desirable).
  • Manufacturing (fabricated steel) and site experience, an asset.
